I call it “Lawrence’s Law Of Gun Debates” ... if these go on long enough, somebody is inevitably going to try to conflate the issue with cars. Here’s the difference: cars are constructive tools, not destructive weapons. A car can carry your shopping home from the supermarket. It can rush a loved one to the hospital. It can impress a date. Can a gun do any of these things? No. All a gun can do is blow holes in things. And people. Cars are designed with safety in mind. Even when you do hit someone or something, they are full of features to minimize the damage. Do bullets come with air bags or crumple zones? Of course not! When a gun is causing destruction, injury and death, it is only working as designed. A car is a constructive tool. A gun is a destructive weapon. End of story.

If you want to talk about “liberty” and “slavery”, consider that, in the US, if you carry a gun, you also need to carry a permit. Which law enforcement can demand to see at any time. So as long as you insist on having that gun on you, you can be tracked, wherever you go. In free and civilized societies, we take it for granted that we can go about our daily business without Government agents continually demanding to see our papers. Just thought I would point that out.

“Now is not the time ... to ask me that question.”

5:40 Massachusetts and Hawaii have effective gun laws. If Illinois could control its borders with states with lax gun laws, it, too, could have effective gun restrictions.
1
How would you do that without border checks?

Again, it’s worth pointing out the difference between cars and guns. As the usage of cars has gone up over the years, the injuries and deaths attributable to them has actually gone down. Can the same be said of guns? Nope.

@cyberft Unfortunately, no. The cases of successful use of guns for self defence is essentially lost in the rounding error. If you get a gun hoping to use it to protect yourself or your loved ones, the odds are overwhelming that it is going to end badly for you or them.
1
@cyberft I get them from references that a) practise a credible methodology, and b) cite credible sources.
1
@cyberft What a load of nonsense.
1
@cyberft You don’t know where to find credible information? Or you just don’t want to know?
1
Hmmm ... do Florida and Texas count as “so-called liberal” states?
1
@TheGlock30owner Both are “shall permit” states.

The car industry is able to thrive in 🇺🇸 without special Constitutional protection, guns are not. Think about that.
1
@cyberft All of which have peaceful, constructive uses. Unlike guns, which are only good for blowing holes in things--and people. And your list doesn’t include cars.
1
@cyberft Is that why 🇺🇸 is so “peaceful” compared to other countries? Give me a break.
1
Among civilized nations, we do not consider it necessary to worry about getting bulletproof back-packs for our kids, just to try to ensure that they survive their school years.
1
@cyberft Ah, the old “protect yourselves from tyranny” nonsense. Haven’t you noticed yet that your 🇺🇸 Government has way more guns -- and much bigger ones -- than you? Have you never heard of “militarization of the police”, which is rampant across the USA? All they have to do is think that you might be pointing a weapon at them, and they will blow you away. And get away with it, too.

Remember when Trump addressed the NRA convention during the 2016 Presidential campaign, and promised to abolish gun-free zones? There were signs all around saying “NO WEAPONS ALLOWED”. That’s right—the NRA convention was itself a gun-free zone!

0:45 What a stupid answer. What are laws for, if not to prevent evil?
