1:25 So “re-entry” has become the established term, even though the spacecraft did not originate from the planet it is “re-entering” the atmosphere of?

8:34 I remember an article which said that, because Mars has no satellite the size of our Moon to counteract the effect, it is subject to gravitational tugs from Jupiter which tilt its axis of rotation every which way over time. Whereas our Earth maintains a more stable orientation for its axis of rotation, which is mainly subject to precession.

@scottmanley No mistake https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astronomy_on_Mars#Long-term_variations : “The variation of Mars's axial tilt is much larger than for Earth because it lacks the stabilizing influence of a large moon like Earth's moon.”

@scottmanley Jupiter and Saturn are major factors in the Milankovitch cycles.

@scottmanley Nope, the article did specifically mention axial tilt. Spin and orbit are inevitably going to interact.
