I grew up and live in NC and i've gone to a lot of these places over the years too and lemme tell ya, it's wild, you hear the weirdest sounds at night and i've personally experienced the poltergeists in okracoke, my family went to visit one of blackbeard's old homes and the shades started to fly up and down entirely on their own, i think that was my first real encounter of something that was just flat out paranormal, like you always hear about this stuff from the 2nd to 3rd person but to experience it first hand is something else entirely even if it's something as small as blinds rapidly shooting up and down the window. From what I understand though, in Okracoke there's definitely more than 1 poltergeist in the area, they're almost teeming with them.
On the other hand it's hard not to visit the infamous Devil's Stomping Grounds if you live here. I went there once because it was the most popular story when I was a kid, and there were all these encounters people have had of the place, people sleeping there and waking up going nuts, leaving objects over there and they disappear or get arranged in a really odd way, some say they've seen apparitions coming out of the woods or seeing humanoid demons staring at them with monstrous smiles, it never ends! Of course all these stories gave me a spooky vibe, but seeing as it was just a stop, the girlfriend at the time was pretty convinced we should GTFO lol
Gotta love NC ghost stories, they give a sense that you're always being watched from the woods by something evil. Usually raccoons.
