Freedom is not given, it's earned. *American Anthem* but no seriously, I come across as an elitist for saying "Linux" deserves to assert it's identity just as much as any other operating system, but it's true, I don't think it's wrong to assert you MUST use the terminal to use Linux, it's what makes linux, linux. I just don't think chasing windows users around and encouraging their bad habits is all that productive, because at the end of the day they just want windows, scratch that, what they want is a smart phone.

  5. start with something debian based in VM, it just works, that way you don't have to worry about breaking anything and before you know it you'll be on arch lol

  6. It's different because you have a choice between free distributions that owe you nothing. With windows, if it's broken, it's broken and you can just GFY, thanks for the money!

  7. False, it's Arch, Artix, Gentoo, Debian, VOID, OpenSUSE, and Redhat. Everything else is a meme. They all either differ greatly from package management, release cycles, and init systems. Everything else is just a wallpaper.

  8. Because half the time it's either siphoning personal information from you, or limiting basic functionality behind a paywall. Also just because software is open-source doesn't mean we don't pay them, there's just no obligation to do so.

  10.  @thomasrossbabin3671  lmao no it doesn't, it severely limits application functionality and eats up way more resources than necessary to complete a simple task, it has to be developed separately from the core software almost like it's own application in itself.

  11. depends on the game, if it's using EAC or DX12 (but tbf windows struggles with DX12) you're gonna have issues, otherwise it's like some 99% of games just work on linux and often times perform WAY better than in windows. It also helps that the current state of modern gaming is garbage lol
