No. He was a military historian and died aged 66.

The Croatians were as bad as the SS. The SS in Croatia actually complained to Berlin about the brutality of Croatians guards working at camps like Jasenovac. Hang your heads in shame!!!

Unfairly??? Are you serious? The Japanese people should consider themselves lucky the first A-bomb didn't get dropped straight on the Emperor's palace. They even let him keep his crown! Japan and Germany became amongst the most prosperous industrialised countries in the world in the decades following WW2 solely because of the way the allies, in particular the americans, allowed them to function. Stalin wanted Germany divided up and turned into basically a big farm. Both Japan and Germany should be extremely grateful for how mercifully they were treated at the hands of the allies at the end of WW2!

It's about appreciating that while Germany got what it deserved for invading Russia, the soldiers didn't choose to be there fighting in those conditions but did so because they were ordered to. If you think anyone would "choose" to exist in those circumstances you must be insane.

...for nothing???

They didn't actually. The overwhelming majority of Germans who committed war crimes and survived the war were never brought to justice and lived out their lives as free citizens. Now, when the majority of participants have died the german government starts hauling people before court because of their affiliations and no real evidence of any crime committed.

I'm wondering if your family at the time knew he was still alive or did he just show up one day surprising the hell out of them?

@yannikoloff7659 I'm not taking sides, but a few examples would be, the Holodomor, which was the intentional starvation of millions of Ukranians by Stalin in 1931-1932, the Katyn massacre of tens of thousands of Polish officers and intelligentsia in 1940, also ordered by Stalin, and the death of over 150'000 people in the Warsaw uprising of 1944 because the Red Army was ordered not to intervene and allied aircraft were not allowed to assist under the orders of, (yep, you guessed it)...Stalin!

Antifa Nazis...? 🤔

Reinhard Heydrich had blonde hair and blue eyes...

Well, it was more the allies. Stalin wanted to execute 50'000 to 100'000 german officers and the end of WW2.

Unbelievable that a game called "Panzer Blitz" was sold in Germany! Ha! Ha! What year was this?
1
@Spectre11B O.k. That makes more sense! Amazing though, that you had that interaction with someone who had actually been in Stalingrad. You must have been a bit too animated about killing germans when he got upset with you! Ha! Ha!
1
Yep. That's pretty much how it goes! It sucks huh...?
1
Actually, I just read your screen name. I'm surprised you are even watching WW2 docos...
1
Did your family at the time know he was alive and returning home or was it a big surprise when he turned up one day?
1
@mickyhamer1300 Who ever answered the door must of thought they were seeing a ghost! Did your family ever talk much about their experiences? You should put them all together in a book. Was your mother at Peenemünde when it was bombed?
1
Not all german soldiers were Nazis, the same as not all germans were Nazis.
1
@browngreen933 Well, that would be ironic given that Putin claims he is "de-nazifying" Ukraine...
1
@torstens2632 No. They got other people, like Ukrainians, to do their dirty work such as killing babies and children. Try reading "Hitler's Willing Executioners" by Daniel Goldhagen.
