  2. I checked an online inflation calculator, and it told me $1 in 1880 is worth about $27.33 today. If he earned $4 a week, and worked 40 hours, Western Electric only paid him $2.73 per hour in today's dollars. Not much. Maybe he should have worked at McDonald's. But really, after becoming chairman of another company, he did take a better career path than working at McDonald's or Taco Bell. He did, though, get a bit fat even without that junk food. :/
