  1. $4.95 for a large Coke (0:50). That's crazy. You can still find 2 liter bottles of soda in the grocery store for about $2. That's five liters for $5. Whether you would want to drink that much is another story, but no matter what fast food restaurants may say, they're selling the product for an enormous markup. Aside from tap water, soda is one of the cheapest items restaurants serve.

  2. This is new? People have been making stopovers in different cities while traveling since the existence of traveling. It's not free either. If you stopover two days in Iceland, the airlines are not going to give you a hotel, and all the other incidental expenses, during your stopover there. Of course, if you plan on sleeping on the streets, only walking/hitchhiking, and dumpster diving for food, or catching and cooking squirrels, during your stopover, that's cheap, but few do that.

  3. I thought you were kidding, but checked online and see those $9 and up burgers. In-N-Out still has cheeseburger meals for less than $9 (plus tax), even in more expensive areas (like L.A.). Make the switch.

  4. I doubt he would qualify to get into Stanford. If he did, and wanted to be part of the community, then apply and get financial aid (by living the homeless lifestyle, he probably needs it). That said, if he really wanted to be part of a college community, there are tons of other community colleges and less competitive four year colleges out there. He should go that route. Using the dorms as his own homeless shelter, which is trespassing, does not make you part of the college community.

  10. This shows that the anti-abortion cause is a minority opinion in all 50 states, and by a large margin. Candidates running now who want to limit abortion rights are preaching to a small percentage of the electorate, and will encourage a larger percentage to vote against them. I wonder what these candidates will try to do for November. If the Democrats are smart, they'll use this to get out the vote as your rights are no longer protected, but can be taken away by tired old legislators at any time.

  11.  @MuzicTunes-lk6np  I've been doing that too. Spending $3.95 for a cup of flavored water is ridiculous. I keep water and drinks in my car. If it gets warm, just ask for a cup of ice. They don't charge for that. At least not yet.

  13. Where on the Drano label does it say it can be used to kill ants, or that it goes perfectly with hot tea? If you really want to kill ants, whether using bug spray or Drano, wouldn't you pour or spray it where the ants are, like on the floor? Were the ants in his tea cup? This makes absolutely no sense. Any attorney using such a defense in court ought to be looking for work.

  15. I heard they've been testing the new recipes first in California. I did go to a McDonald's in Northridge yesterday. I ordered a Big Mac. That location hasn't got the memo. It tasted the same to me. The McD's I went to is at Lassen and Balboa. Right across the street is an In-N-Out. There was a line of cars there. Less of a line at McDonald's, but still busy. Whatever the place, Californians want their burgers done right.

  17. I'm confused about what is a 2D picture and what is a 3D picture. Isn't a picture always 2D (it's flat)? 3D is just how your mind perceives what's in a picture. Anyway, I don't see why people are complaining. How can one complain without ever sitting in these seats? If the seats were bus stop benches, maybe they can complain, but they're airline seats that look like airline seats. Once you sit on one and you feel they have all the comfort of being strapped into the electric chair before they turn on the juice, then you can complain.

  18. With the high price of housing in the Bay Area, you do what you got to do. But really, in socializing with all the students, didn't any get suspicious that he didn't attend any classes with any of them? They must have asked him "his major," and at least some should have had the same major. Heck, when I went to college and talked to other students outside of class, many, if not most, were in at least one of my classes and I went to a big school (CSUN). With this guy, he just hung around the dorms, but it doesn't look like he hung around any classroom buildings, libraries, labs, and so on.

  19. Open Water II, but this time the couple survives. Good Morning America says to "prepared for the unexpected." Really? How many people are in the physical condition to be swimming out in the open ocean at such a distance and make it back onshore? Ask someone to take you out on a boat in the Pacific, dump you out, and see if you can make it back. The couple is extremely lucky to be alive.

  20. Was the kid just playing around? If she gets claustrophobic by not seeing anything out the window, what is she going to do at night? It's totally dark with the shade open or not. I've been on many overseas flights (flights that are 8 hours or more), and after the first meal service it's just plain courteous to put the shade down. These are such long flights and such large time differences, many passengers want to sleep or rest (including me), before reaching their destination. In fact I've been on many flights where flight attendants request that. With the 787, the fight can be handled by the flight crew. They can set all the windows to dim with no way for passengers to undim. Once you've been on enough long flights over the ocean, you come to realize it's the same old stuff when looking out the window. You're not missing much.

  22. Only six sleeper seats for 200 or so coach passengers. That doesn't sound great. Only a lucky few get to use them, and only for four hours. Then there's issues if the passenger who finishes their four hours is still asleep, getting a flight attendant to change the linens, commotion around the sky nest, someone pissed in the bed, and so on. It looks like more of a gimmick than anything else.

  23. I think the sun is well over 400 times larger than the moon. If we can pour a bunch of earths into the sun, it will take about 962,000 of them to fill the space. Earth is tiny, and the moon is even tinier.

  24. If those are the pictures of the bunk beds, where there's nothing beyond the sides of the mattresses, what were they thinking? It's not rocket science that anybody can fall out. I remember going to camp with my grade school class decades ago. There were bunk beds in the dorms. It was impossible to roll off of them. Who designed the death traps the kid fell off of, or who would even buy such a dangerous piece of furniture?

  28. I can't believe how stupid and arrogant these officers are. There's a big, white railroad crossing sign there. Anybody with even 1% of a brain knows not to get out of their car on a railroad track. There's no excuse. If they claim they didn't know that was a railroad crossing with that sign right in front of them along with tracks clearly at their feet, then anyone who runs a stop sign should never be cited, because telling the cops that they "didn't see the stop sign" is a valid excuse.

  30. I always think saying "near miss" is an improper use of English. If I "nearly missed the plane" that means I didn't miss the plane. Why is it different here? Saying it was a "near hit" sounds more logical. At least for me.

  33. Employers should just pay employees a decent salary and make tips not even part of the equation, or even allowed, like in some other countries. That way, stuff like the embarrassing $2.13 per hour tipped minimum wage in Texas will be no more. The cost of the product should include the tip. It's not the responsibility of the customer to determine what employees should be paid. Anyway, the $5 tip for delivering a $20 pizza sounds reasonable to me. It's not a complex job delivering pizza.

  34. There's something mentally wrong with this guy. Let's see. You can either be crushed by the landing gear when it retracts in after take off, the cold temperatures will kill you, lack of oxygen/air pressure as the airplane gains altitude will kill you, then if you're lucky to survive all that, you can fall out when the landing gear deploys before landing (you'll probably be too weak or unconscious to hold on) will kill you. So it's basically suicide, but wasn't there a story of someone making it alive all the way to Hawaii in the landing gear compartment? After that, you got to be deaf after being exposed to all the noise for such a long time.

  35. Hey. You can still buy landline phones and they're still everywhere. Phone companies still have copper wires and there are also VOIP adapters that support landline phones. I don't know what the big deal is. Pay phones are nearly all gone, but not these.

  38. My local Target is now limiting self-checkout to 10 items but hasn't increased the number of human cashiers. I'm screwed, as those lines have got longer. I often shop early in the morning and there are often zero cashiers present. I then ask the one person at the self-checkout what am I supposed to do since I have about 30 items? They just say use the self-checkout. What's the point? Anyway, cashiers don't know every customer. They don't know me.

  39. OK. Outside the secure areas, so that indicates it's doesn't have to be people with airport employee access. Also, how would it be a risk to the public if someone stole gold bars? They didn't steal guns. The only way it would be a risk to the public is if someone threw a gold bar on top of your head.

Someone needs to have an insurable interest in the person when taking out a life insurance policy, but I would think the life insurance company would do some double-checking, making sure the person who life is being insured knows about it. Signatures can be forged unless you have it done at a bank with a signature guarantee, you know.
