  2. It cost her more than $10. You need to add the cost of owning and operating the car, insurance, possibly getting into an accident, etc. When all is considered, maybe the cost was $40 (or more). Doing a race is pointless.

  3. How did the people mover construction, known as Skylink, reduce LAX's roadway capacity (3:14)? They don't intersect. The problem with LAX is it's stuck with decisions made in the 1950's. What seemed like so much room that it can't ever possibly all be used, proved wrong. Once Skylink is finished, things like many of the buses and shuttles (like the Flyaway) will be loading and offloading at the transit center or the consolidated car rental center stops. Even passengers getting rides to the airport can be left off there. That should help, at least some.

  4. This would never be an issue if cellphones still had user replaceable batteries where you just remove a back cover and slap in a new battery. Why can't cellphone manufacturers still do this? The phone will still look cool with an easily replaceable battery. Do you get all concerned about the battery life in a flashlight? Of course not. When the battery gets low you just stick in a new battery. It might take one minute. No special tools needed with the skills of a brain surgeon to do it. This will also cut down on e-waste. People are now judging the useful life of their cellphones based on the battery life. If the battery starts losing its charge quicker, rather than having the phone surgically opened and a new battery installed, with possible issues afterward, just get a new phone. Of course, that's what Apple wants. The iSheep line up every year for new phones whether they need a new one or not.

  8. I don't think this particular unit made it off the ground, but was to test the lunar landers. I'm sure the one in Apollo 11 is still in the command module in the Smithsonian. Any on the lunar landers never made it back.

  9. Again, what Mr. Schank is overlooking, is the new LAX metro/transit center has many bus bays and places to drop off passengers, in addition to the rail line. LAX will then require these shuttles and buses that go around the horseshoe, to leave and pick-up passengers from the transit center. Even passengers being left off by a private car, can be left off there. No rental car shuttles too, as passengers will take the people mover to and from the consolidated car rental facility. If you look at the traffic going around the horseshoe on both levels, there sure are a lot of buses and shuttles. Removing these vehicles should reduce congestion. It's not perfect, but it's a partial solution to decisions that were made when LAX was originally built in the 50's and 60's.

  11. One train a day to Atlanta is a sad statement. If passengers flocked to ride the trains, there wouldn't be talk of cutbacks. That said, the rail infrastructure in the U.S. is pathetic, when compared to Europe. There, it's almost all electrified, modern trains, high speed, etc. Here in the U.S., it's almost like we're back in the 1800's. We can do better.

  12. It's with a lot of companies. See impossible standards, and use that as a reason to get rid of an employee they want to let go. I remember my first "real job." Taco Bell. The employee manual said something like an order for a taco, burrito and drink should be completed in something like one minute, from the time the order was taken until the customer is out the door. Impossible, unless we serve customers food that is uncooked. That expectation wasn't used to terminate the employees at the counter, but was used to downgrade a manager's performance and maybe terminate them. I lost count how many managers came and went. One thing I learned there was this was a place that wasn't a career.

  13. Nothing new here. Many businesses now discourage or don't accept cash anymore for a variety of reasons. Even if these merchant fees go down, does anyone expect stores to really lower their prices? Ain't going to happen.

  16. So it's not because of endless shrimp, as your title erroneously says, but because of a combination of factors going back years. If it was just because of endless shrimp, they could have easily modified the deal, preventing social media influencers, and the like, from ordering 100 shrimp just to make another dumb video. Set a reasonable limit, like 25 or so. If they don't want to remove an endless offer, just change it. Make the offer "endless cat food." Then I can watch someone on YouTube eating a ton of cat food. That's more entertaining than watching someone eating a bunch of shrimp.

  19. I've never used same-day when I see it offered, because it costs more and I don't need the item immediately. Next day or two-day isn't guaranteed. I would say I get 80% on time. The other 20% come from one day to up to a week late. One package I'm expecting today still says it's arriving by 10:00 pm today. I know it's not because the tracking says it arrived at an Amazon facility in Wilmington Ohio this morning, and I'm in California. 10:00 pm isn't happening. Maybe tomorrow. Last week I got notified a package was delivered but I didn't see it at my door. When I checked the website, the picture showing where the package was delivered wasn't my doorstep. I went searching around the neighborhood and found it at another house. That happens, but not often. As far as Amazon job satisfaction, I feel for all those warehouse workers standing all day doing repetitive work. Employee turnover must be huge. This video just interviews higher level supervisors and executives in their executive office clothing. It's the workers down in the trenches that I want to hear.

  20. If they had Windows computers back then, Apollo 11 probably wouldn't have made it. Instead of a "1202 alarm," Windows Update would have started right at the wrong time with some sort of "emergency update" blowing everything up.

  22. If the battery isn't going to be replaced, I wouldn't buy one. The person mentioned phones with bad batteries don't make it to market, that leaves all the phones with old batteries. If you buy a phone that's been moderately used for over a year, the battery may work but is beyond its prime. You'll have a phone that may need more frequent charging, then soon frequent charging, and soon after that charging that is so frequent you don't want to use it. At that point replacing the battery will probably cost more than the phone is worth. :/

  26. So when is this change coming? 7-Elevens in the U.S. don't have much of a selection. I might go in on a rare occasion and by a sandwich and drink (both overpriced). With the sandwich I close my eyes and hold my breath while eating it, and hope for the best. I've been to some 7-Elevens in Europe. Many are just tiny stores with candy, drinks and magazines. Nothing for me.

  28. All the guests see are the housekeepers, who get all the complaints. I wonder what happens to the worn linens. After a number of washes, the linens need to replaced. I'm thinking some towels just get lost, or guests keep some each cycle. Maybe 1%, so the wash facility is constantly adding new linens in with the washed linens.
