There's one instance where a dropout called in a bomb threat in hopes of cancelling the college's graduation ceremony. But whatever they do only slightly delays their years long story from unraveling.

I had to change my LinkedIn password a long time ago because hackers got a ton of them from the platform, but I still get emails from scammers trying to extort money from me because they know my old password.

This Dollar General location looks like they were told way in advance that NBC News was coming so they can make that store the neatest, cleanest and most well stocked store in the country with unusually good merchandise. Look at the shelves (0:46). That's how a store looks in a television commercial. Every shelf and item neat and filled to the brim. Nothing out of place. I don't see any customers aside from people interviewed for this news video. The store looks closed. NBC News has lost credibility with me. Show a Dollar General on a Saturday once shoppers and their kids are unleashed on the place, not this Dollar General propaganda video that North Korea would be proud of. I'm no fan of these places. I've gone into dollar stores and found the experience more like a garage sale. The quality is usually lower, the product sizes are smaller with stores usually messy. What's the point buying a $1 package of toilet paper, where each of the four rolls just have enough paper for one dump? I'll stick to going to places like Vons and Target. If I go to a dollar store, I'll find it's mostly crap, and just end up doing another trip down the street to a regular store. One trip where I know I'll get what I want is better than two trips.

  16. Read about 1973. Parents were concerned with their kids going and starting school when it was still dark outside. The farther north you go, the later the sun comes up. The same thing will happen this time around. Kids still start school at the same time. I would be happy if standard time was year round. I live in a warmer area of the country. If the sun goes down earlier, it's easier to go to sleep (it's darker and several degrees cooler). Better for your health.

  22. Over 99% of bags arrive on time and their correct destination? That's certainly not the case with my bags. On my last 10 flights, three times my bags didn't arrive. I've flown from LAX to Reykjavik Iceland. My bag ends up in Toronto. Another time I went from LAX to Edinburgh Scotland. May bag is sent to Las Vegas. Another time from LAX to Chicago, my bag stays at LAX. This wasn't from me checking in late. I allow plenty of time, but my bags go their own way.

  31. WiFi calling did not work. WiFi calls still have to connect to the AT&T network, and that was dead. As far as SOS mode, it's the same thing. Your phone needs to connect to a working cell network to call 911. If everything is down, your phone can't magically make 911 calls.

If any are still alive, the police would need to check long term care facilities. If they do in fact find the person, how do you prosecute someone who is 100 years old?

  65. It's whatever works for you. Still, having a college degree isn't a minus. A problem is when a company posts a job announcement for a job requiring certain skills, they may get inundated with a zillion applicants. Putting a college degree as a requirement for the position will reduce the number of applicants to a quarter zillion. It's a filter, so don't expect the college requirement to drop much. I'm in I.T. software development and do have a bachelors. If I didn't have that, I might have still got into this field, but the odds would have been less and who knows how much more time and hurdles I would have had to go through.

  67. Explanation to the reporter: The reason why the driver missed the flashing lights and emergency vehicles is because they were on the other side of a divided highway (duh). The tow truck in the left lane had no flashing lights. If the truck did have a hazard light flashing, the ramp being down could block the view. If you take a closer look, the car to the right of her was going about the same speed, but didn't have the truck in front of them. Not paying attention is a cause, but as far as the flashing lights and emergency vehicles, how many of us totally slow down for something happening on the other side of a divided highway?

  68. I only go into the dollar stores out of curiosity. The stores look depressing, and the quality and selection is even more depressing. The savings are often an illusion. Toilet paper rolls that have enough tissue for only one dump, and egg cartons in smaller sizes so they look cheap. The problem is that if people want to keep their neighborhood grocery stores open, they have to shop at them. If there is no business, they close. Shop at the grocery store instead of the dumpy dollar store, and there will be no problem with the traditional stores closing. Instead it will be the dollar stores that are closing.

So in my case, it ends up being a single use coin. As far as now hoarding them, thinking you'll be rich some day, that probably won't happen. They'll never be a rare coin, since billions of them have been produced each year. That happens with some rare penny from decades ago, not with the zillions of recently pressed pennies. One problem that might happen, since there are no longer pennies, then they'll be a need to make more nickels, as that will be the lowest denomination coin. It might end up costing more money in the end, since they're more expensive to make.

I went through years of treatment, seeing the orthodontist every three weeks, and also an oral surgeon. See the proper specialists, not this. Also, out of curiosity, I went to their website and clicked on "Am I a Candidate?" I picked the worst case scenario of everything from the pictures, and selected I also had an "overbite/underbite," which could mean surgery, but of course you can't diagnose what is needed just from here. Anyway, after entering everything, up comes a screen that says, "Good news, you have options!" There's no way from what you enter on that website it will say you're not a candidate.

  86. The reason why it imploded does look obvious. All they'll probably find of that center hull portion are a zillion pieces that fell to the bottom. What was inside, including the five occupants, got pulverized. The design and materials shouldn't have been used. I've been looking on the web for a history of deep submersible deaths. I found something in 2019 from a fire, but nothing from a structural failure. Deep sea diving has been going on since the 1950's, with the Mariana Trench explored in 1960. No implosions killing the occupants. Although dangerous, it looks like there's been reliable technology from materials that have existed long before most of us have been born. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It's either intentional or he had way too many brewskis. I remember as a kid taking the RTD public bus (Los Angeles) home from school. The driver either got sick of us junior high school students or was late. He dumped us all off on the opposite end of the San Fernando Valley and left. He didn't, though, drive the bus into a river. Many parents complained to the transit agency (it's now called the MTA). I wonder what happened to the RTD driver. He probably got promoted.

  92. College worked for me. I went to Cal State when it was cheap. I paid as I went. Now it's ending up with $100,000 in debt once you're done. Whether it's worth it or not, depends on a lot variables. Obviously you can't be a doctor and skip college. There's also what a high school diploma is worth. High schools are passing them out as long as you can breath. Learning anything is optional. I never learned things that really helped me in life until I went to college. I.T. is one the higher earning degrees, but guess what? I ended up in the I.T. field, and can be considered one of the high earners, without a computer science, math or engineering degree, but in an unrelated field. You just never know what life may bring you.

  93. This is nothing new. In my first "real job" at a company owned Taco Bell, they even avoided overtime on regular employees when due. On top of that, the "managers" were salaried, so even if they were working 60 hours per week, it didn't make their pay any higher as if they only worked 40. What's more insulting about this, even though these companies claim these employees are managers, their straight time pay didn't reflect it. It still was close to minimum wage. Even if their pay was time and a half for all their hours, the pay was still lousy.

If the expert staff are driven out of the plant, only leaving Russian conscripts with guns on site, that I feel is worse. Nobody there to run things.   102. Self imposed torture. Commuters decide not to take public transit but drive, so what do they expect? Freeways aren't going to magically become 10 lanes in each direction. Anyway, my commute has only been about two miles for the past 11 years. Sometimes I walk it, but most of the time I just drive down an empty street to my office. Telling them not to worry, because their little ones will be less likely to be killed in the evening if they managed to survive the morning (so it all balances out), wouldn't be a logical argument. I doubt that would make parents any happier today. If anything, people are getting up earlier than decades ago.   132. I got fairly good at Ms. Pacman, when there was the arcade game in the break room at work, but finally gave it up. My wrist was starting to ache badly, as I was serious on the joystick. Pinball I wasn't good at. I remember in high school we had a couple pinball machines in shop class, so we can learn about repairing them. I didn't learn much about repairing, but with the top glass removed I could score a lot of points by pushing things and catching the ball before it could fall down the bottom.

  136. Nothing new. The fast food companies employ food artists to take all the ingredients and make that burger look like it's someone's graduate project from Le Cordon Bleu. Do you really expect that from a fast food restaurant employing high school students who are serving 100 customers an hour? If the picture really looked like what the customer gets, they'll need to take the burger and step on it, then take the picture. That would be amusing to see on the menu at the counter, but Burger King will never do that. My first job was at a Taco Bell. Once in a while I would get a customer asking for their meal to look like the picture. I felt like taking the picture off the wall and giving it to them, because that's the only way that can happen.

If not an amazing I.T. person at 17, you'll really need connections in these companies to get your foot in the door. Until then, take as much I.T. classes as you can at a community college or university. I have a degree outside I.T., but eventually made connections and contacts where I work. They saw I had a knack for this stuff. I started as a low paid administrative employee, but eventually moved into I.T. My title is Senior I.T. Analyst. Good luck.

An animal shelter in the mall may initially help a bit, but things may drop off, like other things a mall tries. Once everyone in the neighborhood has a cat, why go back to the shelter again. Cats usually live about 12 - 15 years. Visiting the mall once over 12-15 years won't do much for business. If having a pet store in the mall didn't save the mall, an animal shelter might not either.

  155. Basically every card has a chip now, so that didn't help her. The skimmer probably read the magnetic strip when she inserted the card into the chip reader. What's a better method is look for, and use, readers that do contactless. More and more are capable, including at gas pumps. When I see that, I just put my card over the contactless reader. When you do that, there's no chance for a skimmer to read your card since you didn't insert or swipe your card. It may be possible to read the RFID off a contactless card, but it's extremely unlikely and requires much more technology.

That's an average storm in most areas, but the hard ground in Las Vegas says otherwise. As for hotels flooding, I blame that on poor construction.
