Using aluminium air batteries packaged in shipping containers to power ships that transfer similar sized shipping containers is actually a really good idea. The infrastructure needed to handle those containers is already installed and you could collect used battery containers in ports and transmit those with one full ship to recycling once done. In addition, since putting e.g. 10 extra containers in a large ship is no problem you wouldn't need to have a recycling station at every port so logistics would be pretty easy to solve. On the other hand, using those for cars sounds a bit more problematic. I would assume that recharging would be much better option overall for cars because you can cheaply build the infrastructure over time. EV cars can already be used today and the more charging locations we get, the lesser problem the recharging will be. I'd expect to see overhead charging cables on highways in the future, a bit similar to ones used to power trains today. That would allow you to recharge batteries while driving the long runs and use fully charged batteries in the cities.
