  2. I personally used to combine 3 (the only failure is not trying) and 24 (don't make assumptions about people): I assumed way too often that, for example, if I requested X the answer would be no. Unsurpriginly, I never got to be proven wrong but I never got unexpected success for things I didn't even try. Somehow avoiding being proven wrong seemed better than trying my luck when I was younger. That didn't cause any catastrophes but definitely avoided the optimal case, too.
