Producing "consciousness" is a bit weird metric when people still cannot agree on definition of such a thing. Some people seem to think that it's some supernatural concept such as "soul". Also, the human brain cannot run on full blast for extended periods, unlike supercomputers which have adequate power input and cooling to run at full blast 24/7. If you ever try to learn new stuff for hours and hours, you'll feel fatique from mental effort. And if you try to do that on multiple consequtive days, you'll feel really fatiqued even if you have done no physical work at all. This is brain telling you "I cannot operate on this performance level anymore". That said, human brain is truly a wonderful thing. One thing that is interesting is that latest LLM models are about to pass / have already passed the Turing test meaning you cannot separate a human from machine via remote interview anymore. And still those most complex LLMs have somewhere between 0.1 and 1.5 trillion weights which are digital counterpart of synaptic connection. And human brain has somewhere around 300 to 1000 trillion synaptic connections. If LLM can show equal level intelligence with less than 1% of that complexity, how brilliant the human brain is after all? For energy efficiency, sure, human brain wins any AI system hands down but AI systems will only get better during the next decade or two.
