  1. The spelling and pronounciation of English can be very easily explained: "due historical reasons". And nobody ever tried to fix the mess that has been created. As a result, there's no logic of any kind, only lots of historical exceptions to learn. It's easier to consider English as two different languages which fortunately share grammar and words are a bit similar.
