  1. You should have measured/controlled RPM of the cutting head, too. Robert had really good suggestions about what to focus on.

  2. In my experience, pretty thin twisted sharp sharp square line did nice cuts but the line was so fragile I had to be feeding more line all the time. Nowadays I'm using much thicker solid round line that is really durable and still results in usable cut.
