  1. Some say that silver and gold would be even better than copper for transmitting electricity but even Texans think that would be wasteful use of resources in large scale. If I remember correctly, having 4x thicker wires with aluminium is equally good to copper. The big question is, is copper 4x more expensive than aluminium? Of course, for electric motor windings, the real options are copper and silver, because in that case, you're space limited and thicker aluminium windings would reduce efficiency.
