I didn't know that the energy from the avalanche was enough to partially melt the snow but it indeed explains why it's next to impossible to get out from the snow after getting buried into the snow. Of course, if you're buried deep, snow weights at least 100 kg per 1 m³ so being buried a couple meters deep would keep you in place even if it didn't re-freeze.
