  1. To be exact, the CIA method was shining something with a laser and measuring the reflection. It obviously works but it's an active method which means it can be detected. The method in this video is similar to passive sonar in submarines - it cannot be detected because the listener doesn't need to transmit anything. And just like passive sonar is much harder to create than active sonar, the problems are similar in this version, too.
