  1. According to the info I could find, you would need ridiculous heavy weights to cut ice colder than -3.5 °C using this method assuming the air temperature outside the ice is also -3.5  °C or lower. And if you try to hang e.g. 100 kg weights to that tiny wire, it will snap for sure.
