As an EU citizen, the problem with Europe is insanely interested in trams. And the huge huge problem with trams is that once you lay down the insanely expensive track, it stays there. And as a result, it cannot react to any trends in actual needs for changes in transit. EU should be switching to battery operated buses instead. That would allow zero local CO2 emissions and ability to quickly adapt routes to actual needs of the population. Some people think that trams are better because they use dedicated lines and don't get jammed into the traffic. We can do that with buses, too, without laying the expensive metal rails into the ground! Add enough cameras and define high enough fines if private cars still try to use those bus lanes.
