4:29 I think the reason to create synthetic fuel instead of using pure hydrogen in planes is to avoid building those big and heavy hydrogen tanks. I haven't seen any calculations but I wouldn't be surprised if hauling heavy hydrogen tanks in planes would be less effective than using somewhat less effective manufacturing process to create fully sustainable synthetic jet fuel on ground and using engines designed for jet fuel.

I think one hard problem that still needs to be solved is controlling the hydrogen in case of accidents. The jet fuel has been designed to be extremely non-flammable as a liquid but you cannot do similar modifications to hydrogen.

In addition to making hard to contain hydrogen in a tank because of low temperature and/or high pressure needed, it also makes metal brittle in long term exposure. And brittle metal is typically not something you want to have in an aircraft.
