  1. I would assume that for the next 10–20 years, the most economically viable solution is to switch to fully synthetic jet fuel. That would result in zero CO2 emissions without range problems and the jets could fall back to regular jet fuel in case synthetic fuel production fails for any reason. The only problem is cost, once again. Synthetic jet fuel (produced from electricity, water and CO2 captured from the atmosphere) is pretty expensive to made and airlines have close zero interest to switch to it unless forced.
