  1. Original Chevrolet Volt (/Opel Ampera) did exactly that: EV car with small battery and built-in ICE generator. Unfortunately, it didn't sell well enough and it was cancelled. I would have wanted to have one with a bit more polisheshed technology but they cancelled the model maybe a couple of years before I would have considered it complete.
