  1. Wow, some of that final soldering looked pretty crappy. I'd expect some those solder joints to fail within a year. For microsoldering you really need to get at least TS100 soldering iron with preferably non-conical tip. And soldering flux. And pair of reading glasses or even a microscope would be good, too.

  2. About the more complex USB-C connector: couldn't you just move the existing resistor from R1 to R2? One of the locations is empty and it seems logical that you're supposed to just desolder the provided resistor to configure the connector while connecting the wires.
