  1. Yes, the PWM connection point should work fine for that. However, depending on the screen the PWM frequency may need to be adjusted and depending on your PWM controller it can be adjustable or not. The easiest way to figure this out would be to use an oscilloscope to measure PWM cycle length from the original laptop and change backlight (most laptops can do this even when the LCD screen is broken).
