  2. 20:05 Considering that the only reason Firefox went with Mercurial over Git originally was because Mercurial had better Windows support and many enough Firefox developers worked on Windows machines. When Git was nice enough to use on Windows, there was zero reason to keep using Mercurial for Firefox.

  3. 15:00 I'm a Linux user using VS Code and GitHub. Those are totally acceptable for me because I have a clear path forward in case MS ever changes their behavior to be too bad for me. VS Code is open source so I can simply fork the last sane version and Git works just fine without GitHub, too, so I will not lose any history or have to change my personal workflow except for the GitHub user interface. GitHub is not centralized source control, it's just a commonly used place to keep a copy of your repository online.
