  1. Modern programs use lots of RAM and CPU because most programmers skip any kind of optimization nowadays. As long as the customer is happy to pay for more hardware, it doesn't make sense for the software vendor to use more hours to optimize RAM or CPU usage. I'm not happy with that tradeoff but I fully understand where it came from.
