Mach is the operating system from which Apple forked the Mac OS kernel. Historical (read: slow version) was true microkernel but the modern Mac OS kernel is mostly monolithic but still has some microkernel-like parts due historical reasons. Mac OS kernel will crash similar to any other modern operating system.

3:20 I think the "not-yet-released Windows/NT" refers to historical Windows version which had GPU driver in user mode because microkernel-architecture. By Windows NT 4.0 Microsoft had to move the GPU driver to kernel because the performance was too bad otherwise. And Windows NT 4.0 crashed a lot because of GPU drivers. Microkernels are fine if you don't need any kind of runtime performance.

51:10 I think the "200 MIPS" refers to "high performance" CPU that can do 200 million integer instructions per second when typical CPUs could do maybe 50 when he was posting the message. My current desktop CPU does about 140000 MIPS. It's possible that he's referring to MIPS R4200 CPU which was released in 1993. It was 80 MHz RISC CPU with actual runtime performance somewhere between Intel 486 and Pentium. For a year 1993 product, I'd say it was competitive but not miraculous.

18:30 I claimed a couple of years ago that lawyers is the last occupation that's being replaced by AI because laywers have the best tools to prevent AI taking their jobs. However, I've since been informed that lawyers are already being replaced by AI in many companies. Basically all junior level lawyers have already been replaced already!

41:50 The "GNU kernel" refers to GNU Hurd. It almost supports USB devices today so it's still a bit undone. But it's a microkernel so it must be good one day ;-)
