The only thing that should have been explicitly mentioned in this video from the start is that when you set minimum future bar for the newly hired employee, you must clearly communicate the minimum bar requirement and explain from the start that they will not continue working there if they fail to exceed the minimum bar before given deadline. It's also important to tell that mistakes are allowed but overall performance must exceed given minimum bar or there will not be a common future. I think the hurt feelings are often caused by having such minimum bar kept hidden from the employee who will receive the bad news only during the deadline. If they were not aware of the minimum bar, they will obviously feel cheated when they get sacked, no matter how obvious that minimum bar should have been. However, if they still feel like being cheated when told about the minimum bar from the start and still staying the in company without being able to meet the bar, that's surely their own fault. At very least they should have spent all their freetime looking for new job because they should have understood that they cannot meet the minimum bar.
