If you want to print photos, you do need a ink jet printer but it should have at least 6 colors – and obviously you never ever pay for the OEM inks. Before getting an inkjet printer, figure out how to get refillable ink and high quality 3rd party ink for the printer. Or just accept whatever monopoly pricing your ink jet printer manufacturer wants to have. At that point, it probably is getting cheaper to order your photo copies from commercial printer which has even better quality printer than your 6–8 color home inkjet could do.
