Except if you live in EU and YouTube wants to provide their service to EU, they cannot sell your profile information without explicit permission because of GDPR.

@baaadmofo I agree that non-direct data has some value, too, but if you were allowed to attach it to personal details such as email address, name, postal address or credit info, it would be a lot more valuable still. However, that's not allowed within EU but it's legal in the US for all I know. As a result, non-EU users are more valuable to big services as a method of payment.

@johntetreault Yeah, you could argue that you agree to whatever is said on the 11th page of the license text when you click "AGREE" button. However, GDPR explicitly says that each use case must be individually agreed on and the agreement must be explicit (for example, multiple thing cannot have checkboxes already filled and you just click "I agree" button to complete the form). Naturally there are a lot of companies that do not follow the GDPR to the letter but they are risking the penalties if they do so. (GDRP sets the fines to 20 million EUR or 4% of the firm's worldwide annual revenue from the preceding financial year, whichever is higher for a given company).

@kirsten007 The problem with Youtube ads is that they are too cheap. Make them way more expensive and you don't need to spam the viewers and as a result, the viewers are more likely to accept the ads.

You just have to create new account every day and your watch history will be limited to a day. If you cannot bother to do that, you're not serious about the privacy or you consider YouTube more important than your privacy.
