  1. The problem with DMCA is that you have to have digital "lock". It doesn't need to be secure. It just needs to be "lock" and it will be illegal to circumvent it for any purpose as long as the "lock" guards intellectual property such as copyrighted music or video. The the manufacturer made an actual lock (that is, something that's not easy to circumvent) they wouldn't need extra protection from the legislation so the whole point of DMCA is to intentionally use bad locks and then use legislation instead of technology to kill the competition. This has been known problematic for software for a long time and and it seems that this company is trying to extend the problems into hardware, too. The correct way to fix this is to (1) get rid of DMCA and (2) sue this company to bankruptcy.
