I think signing NDA is okay if the NDA contract clearly definines the secrets – for example, if it says that any material delivered in a ZIP package requiring password "NDA" to unzip are covered, I'd be happy to sign such contract. If the wording is unclear and covers potentially anything, never ever sign such crap. In addition, the NDA should explicitly say that if the same information is available from other sources (public or not), sharing such information is not covered/limited by the NDA contract. Also 7 year expiry date is bullshit unless they pay monetary compensation for such a long limitation. And I would really want to see NDA explicitly say that you're allowed to publicly disclose the type of information received which is covered by the NDA. For example, even after signing the NDA, you should be able to publicly say that you've received full schematics or that you haven't received full schematics. It's especially bad if the NDA covers disclosing information about missing data.
