  1. Yes, this is actually the exact same "problem" as with DRM. Both require that Alice can send a secret message to Bob without Eve getting access to it. And Bob and Eve are aliases for the same person!

  2. Many politicians are like human version of ChatGPT. They emit random output to try to simulate understanding whenever they don't understand the facts and aren't willing to say "I don't know".

  3. I think it's more like totally misunderstanding that end-to-end-encryption even exists. This politician obviously still thinks that Signal sends the message to server owned by Signal and then the server sends the message to the receiver. I think that in best case we'll see requirement that all centralized systems are required to scan data for viruses and child porn. Then Signal can implement a server sniffer algorithm that always says "this appears to be encrypted binary data" and never raise a flag without lying about anything.
