I can proudly say that I've never owned a smartphone that couldn't run an alternative OS. I used to run Cyanogenmod and nowadays the closest alternative is LineageOS. However, I'm fully aware that I belong to small minority because I cannot get any new smartphones immediately when they come available because manufacturers don't seem to care. And I would never get an Apple iOS device because you cannot replace the OS and cannot even install a web browser of your choice on the default OS.
