  1. Every time the chain hops over rear wheel gear on high torque (especially the smallest cogs) on Derailleur gears, it's time for a new chain. The chain has too much wear. Go with highest quality chain and you'll be happy. I'm told KMC would be the best option. Shimano and SRAM are okay, too. Some claim that you have to swap the cassette, too, but unless it looks bad, I wouldn't bother.
