@Cheepchipsable I would say that surprisingly lot of what Elon promises actually materializes but no on the time periods he speaks about. I think some call it "Elon time" and it seems that Elon time goes about 7x the real world speed. If Elon says something is coming in two years, expect to see it around 14 years instead. But changes are pretty good that it will come!

Volt also has liquid cooling for the batteries but for some reason Tesla doesn't seem to be able to make the batteries leak free. And I would bet not all Volts are leak-free after 10 years either, it could be that your unit is just the lucky accident that happens to still work as designed.

@TheArchaos Unless you're buying cars for ideological purposes (and you really shouldn't – if you want to improve world pollution status you use bicycle and mass traffic) you should consider total cost of ownership per mile or kilometer. That means, you should take sum of the purchase price, battery swap / maintenance and fuel / electricity and check the cost per mile/km. EV doesn't use lots of energy per mile/km but when you compute the price of battery lifetime per mile/km it suddenly is the most important cost in the long run. Electricity is way too cheap overall to really matter compared to battery costs over the lifetime of the car. I drive an old direct injection diesel which I maintain myself and no EV car comes close to total cost per km when you consider all of the above. If you don't maintain and repair your cars by yourself, then the local carage pricing could make a difference to total costs, though.
