  2.  @perwestermark8920  I agree that car manufacturers currently work this way. They get ECU or ECM or ABS unit from Bosch and cannot fix issues in it by itself even if they wanted. However, if legislation is changed to require schematics, Bosch no longer can sell parts to US if they want to keep schematics secret. Obviously, Bosch is not going to forfeit the whole US market so they will release the schematics. But they will not do this only due customer pressure, only for legal changes.
