  1. When we got our whole house built, all the work was paid after the given work was already finished. In all phases. If a contractor asks for 35% of money before starting the work, DO NOT PAY THE MONEY! Oh, and I was able to visit the construction site weekly to personally inspect the work and we still had professional non-dependant 3rd party inspector checking the results before paying anything. And we still accidentally got 2 photos from another construction site from the 3rd party inspector due pure mistake. And this is in Finland where all money is paid as electronic wire transfers. I have seen a paper check last time around 25 years ago.
