  1. The trademark thing could be about the fact that Honda is not publishing these files. However, if that was the sole problem Honda has, they could simply require relabeling the files to say e.g. "Cup holder compatible with Honda Civic 2017" instead of requiring takedown of the whole file.

  2. 8:00 Imagine that you have old enough car that the original manufacturer doesn't want to sell spare parts anymore. Would you trash totally working car simply because you cannot get the spare parts from the original manufacturer? And note that voting with your wallet e.g. 10-12 years after the manufacturing date is pretty hard without a working crystal ball. I'm still using year 1999 VW Passat that I'm fixing by myself and once I found a 3rd party manufacturer that created stronger front suspension ball joints than the original car had, I no longer need to replace those parts every second year like the original spare parts. I definitely do not want to be limited to original parts, no matter if I repair the thing by myself or I pay somebody else to do the job. And I want to add that the fact that I can keep that car rolling doesn't mean that I would recommend anybody else to try that thinking that VW Passat is somehow special. It's not and VW has done lots of crappy stuff with proprietary computer stuff which would require special device by VW to execute repairs. One reason I'm using such an old car is that this old technology has been reverse engineered well enough so that I can actually get 3rd party information for this thing.
