  3.  @ThomasJr  Terrorists were trained well enough to know to turn off the transponders of those planes. Without that, ATC is not able to keep track of the planes by default. Nobody expects a jet to have transponders off and not to communicate in any other way.

  4.  @wll1500  The problem was that "22" was said by the ATC only once much earlier. Unless they wrote it down, confirmation bias is eager to change 22 to 26. As explained in the changed procedures, ATC and pilots are now supposed to say the runway number during communication to avoid this kind of problems.

  5. I understood the message be that he is so sorry for the accident that he's causing trouble for his loved ones. And he's feeling forry for himself for that, too. I think the best such ex-pilot can do is to try to make new pilots understand the errors of past flights and tell why flying should never be considered routine. At least not until we have much much better computer taking care of the flying. Currently, all planes require a lot of manual tweaking for each flight.
