  2. There are other solutions, too. Here in Finland, the cheap detergent is typically wrapped in plastic-like wrapper which is designed to melt slowly and you're supposed to get it wet during the prewash so it melts away near the start of the main cycle. So depending on the detergent you're using, the detergent should be in enclosed detergent box during the start of the wash or somewhere in the machine (we put the detergent tablet into the holder for cutlery). And if you use powder style detergent, just put some on the bottom of the machine and rest into the sealed box.
