Because one of the world's most treasured buildings employs people who smoke in an area where smoke could damage 1000 year old wood, carvings and damage paint applied nearly 800 years ago? Because curators who study their craft for DECADES allow oil-soaked rags to litter a fragile archeological site susceptible to mold, bacteria and chemical damage from modern solvents? Either you are terribly stupid, just ignorant, or disingenuous to the point of being ludicrous.

@ Jack Mathis The cultural patrimony of the Western World belongs to actual people. The part of departed history that now does not exist for people to claim their past, study what the world was like then, and decide on a future, belongs to actual people. I am an atheist. I don't believe in god. But I do know that part of the history of medieval Europe was contained in that ruin; the beauty of the Rose Window, and each hand-hewn stone that made up what people believed then to be the most important thing in their lives. This is the history of actual people. You are an idiot.
