The US/West makes countries lose trust for them through its own actions. ''Do as I say not as I do'', the US lectures other countries on the importance of sovereignty and democracy when itself routinely violates the sovereignty and democracy of other countries. It claims to care about the democracy of Taiwan while disregards the fact that most in Taiwan do not support separatism; it claims to care about the welfare of the people there while tries its best to push them towards conflict, war and destruction. Yes, being a ''friend'' of America is fatal, I hope the people of Taiwan realise this before it is too late.

@martinfiedler4317 Where in my comment did you read that most people in Taiwan do not support separatism from the PRC? Nowhere. Hence pointless ''correction''. There is only ONE China, the island province of Taiwan belongs to China according to Republic of China's constitution. As it stands for now, the People's Republic of China is recognised by majority UN member countries as the sole legitimate representative of the ONE China. Which means Taiwan belongs to the PRC, whether the people there agree with this or not. And finally, the PRC government has always said that the ROC can retain everything it has, its (provincial) government, political system, economic system and even its army, as long as it does not attempt to become independent and potentially being recognised as an independent country by the UN member countries. To secede from China violates ROC's own constitution as well as PRC's, which is what the current Taiwan government is trying to do. And the PRC is not going to allow it. Both ROC and PRC belong to the same ONE China.

@martinfiedler4317 Lol, you love to play with words, but that doesn't change anything. There is only one sovereign country called China, yes just China, but it is named by the CPC government as PRC after their successful revolution and later winnings of the civil wars to overthrow the then corrupt Republic of China (1912 -1949) government led by the Chinese Nationalist Party (aka KMT). After the remnant KMT government and its forces retreated to the island of Taiwan, it continued its rule on the island with the same name Republic of China, yes the same ROC (Taiwan being part of it) when the KMT was in charge. But in 1979, after the US established formal relations with government of the PRC, the PRC became the sole legitimate representative of China, the island province of Taiwan (ROC) is a part of that China (PRC). So when you say, Both, the ROC and the PRC are sovereign countries. You are essentially saying that there are TWO Chinas, which is not reality. And no, I take no consideration of how the people of Taiwan feel about this. Neither should you, because you won't be sending yourself to the front-line to fight for Taiwan independence. Thus stop pretending you care about them.

For anyone who is still delusioning about ROC being a country (only because the PRC government tolerates the usage of such name because it contains the word China). The fact is ROC's KMT government had lost its effective rule over the Mainland from 1949 and over the whole of China from 1979. In other words, the ROC as a country had ceased to exist since the KMT government lost its effective rule over the Mainland after losing the civil wars, in turn making its rule over Taiwan illegitimate. Uninformed Western people should stop playing with words and making up the illusion that ROC is still a country, as I said, the name is only allowed to be used by Taiwan because it has the word China in it. ROC is DEAD since 1949.

"On october 25, 1971, the UN General Assembly passed United Nations Resolution 2758 (XXVI) which stated that the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government of China. The resolution replaced the ROC with the PRC as a permanent member of the Security Council in the United Nations." I also quote part statement of the resolution itself as follows. "Decides to restore all its rights to the People's Republic of China and to recognize the representatives of its Government as the only legitimate representatives of China to the United Nations, and to expel forthwith the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek from the place which they unlawfully occupy at the United Nations and in all the organizations related to it." Conclusion: KMT's ROC government lost its legitimate representation as "China", that the PRC's government replaced the ROC (Taiwan) government as the sole legal ruling government of "China". ROC as a "country" has officially ended in 1971. Martin, please do us a favour, if you don't have anything relevant to contribute, just be quiet.

And yes I only argued based on facts known to everyone, and you quoted a bunch of stuff hardly anyone refers to thus has no validity to the topic. Strictly speaking, ROC's government has been illegitimate under the international law.
