Surprised that Webp wasn't mentioned, given that it's the only relatively-common format, as far as I know, that has been invented recently.

  4. I don't have any notable hearing loss, but cannot statistically hear the difference between 192k mp3 and 320k. The difference between 128k and 192k is clear though. Having said that, storage for small files like audio is so cheap nowadays that there is no reason not to encode everything in 320k, or FLAC for personal use (for distribution you might want both because some playback devices don't support FLAC).
