  1. It's carries the most direct and powerful message of 'other'. There's no othe word that makes people seem more...alien. It's a very toxic word. Some people will say "it just means immigrant" - so does 'immigrant', there's a reason they choose to say 'alien' instead. Immigrants belong in America...but aliens?
