  1. It's a lot like what we have in Ukrainian/Russian culture. There r 2 camps. One thinks that everything OURS (traditionally Slavic) is wonderful and perfect and everything Western is corrupt. The other thinks that we r irredeemably backward and barbaric and mindlessly idealize and emulate everything Western. To me BOTH extremes s*ck. I sincerely hope that the silent majority in both cultures have common sense and agree w me.

  2. Oh, so now u r a cultural relativist? We don't do it in our day but u have to respect cultural values of the past! I LOATHE cultural relativis every bit Steven Pinker does. As a woman I find it reprehensible when someone rails against least sign of sexism in the West, past or present, real or imagined and then turns around, looks at ATROCITIES against women in developing non-white cultures and starts spewing crap that we should respect 'their way of doing things" and "not forcing Western values" because, CULTURAL RELATIVISM due to post-colonial Western Guilt!
