  1. Not just Chinese. Arabs have Nika Muta, 'walking marriage'. Soviets during wars had 'field wives'. A classmate's mother (in Ukraine) was the local wife of a businessman from Bangladesh wherever he visited. He was that girl's and her brother's bio dad. He acknowleged them and every year took them to Bangladesh to spend a few weeks w his main family. So it happened in everywhere and in any time.
