  1. It's always disappointing when Oliver generalizes and cherry-picks incidents to try to make a point. Like other politically- biased late night hosts, he uses whatever bit of 'news' helps sell his bias or make a joke. Context, balance and perspective are lacking in this segment. For example, Oliver mentions two stories of violence against deportees in this vid. But offers zero proof the deportations were the reason for the violence. How do we know the two stories are true? We don't. Oliver's biggest lie-by-omission was not mentioning the thousands of examples of where the court system works. And successful deportations of criminals and those clearly abusing the system. Or the deportations of undocumented "refugees" who can't genuinely prove their life is in danger in their home country. Oliver also fails to mention many of the current issues are due to weak border security/vetting processes. Even though Obama was 'deporter in chief' and sent millions back, many of the current issues can be traced back to his 8 year term. Oliver propagandizes this segment by suggesting the current problems are because of the current government. The long term solutions to the immigration issue and the under-staffed/backlogged court system are simple: 1. Don't let illegal immigrants enter the country in the first place! 2. Speed up the vetting process for claiming 'refugee' status. Get those who don't meet humanitarian criteria out of the country ASAP. The longer they're here, the more complicated their situation becomes.

  2. Well said. I made the same basic point and scrolled down to see yours. It's mind boggling how unbalanced this segment was. It's propaganda intended to mislead and misinform. Oliver is better than this.

Oliver mentions two stories of violence against deportees in this vid. But offers NO proof the deportations were the reason for the violence. How do we know the two stories are true? We don't. He further misleads with selective editing of emotional people. 2. Oliver's biggest lie-by-omission was not mentioning the thousands of examples of where the immigration court system works. Not mentioning the thousands of successful deportations of criminals and/or those clearly abusing the system. Or the many deportations of undocumented "refugees" who can't genuinely prove their life is in danger in their home country. 3. Oliver also fails to mention many of the current issues are due to weak border security/vetting processes. Another selective and misleading omission. 4. Perhaps worst of all (and most disappointing): Oliver propagandizes this segment with the inference the current immigration problems are because of the current government. 5. Oliver made no reference to the fact Obama was 'deporter in chief' and sent millions back. Many of the current issues can be traced back to his 8 year term. This is important context for any discussion on current immigration issues. Bottom line, Oliver's political bias, generalizations, lies-by-omission and political propaganda ruined this segment.
