  1. I guarantee you Russia is irritated by Trump talking about buying Greenland. Although it's been talked about a few times in the past, the timing of Trump's musing is likely related to the current race to claim the Arctic beyond internationally-recognized limits. Five countries, including Denmark and the US, are working with a UN committee on claims based on continental shelves. As it stands, there's a number of areas that multiple countries are claiming. Including the North Pole. The whole discussion has been quite collaborative...so far. But Russia recently placed a flag on the seabed at the North Pole, supposedly as a symbolic gesture.
