"Catching it despite never being in close contact with someone who was known to be infected". What an idiotic and misleading statement from ABC. The virus takes weeks to show itself. Clearly the person was in contact with someone who was infected, whether it was "known" is irrelevant.

Over 50,000 die worldwide from flu-related illness each year. Although this is a particularly nasty version, it's important to remember this little fact.

It's always interesting to think about who's "Patient Zero" in any outbreak for a particular area/country. For example, there was a recent story of one guy who went from Singapore to Europe in the early days of the outbreak and they were able to attribute dozens of subsequent cases to him...throughout over half a dozen countries. There'll be some key learnings from this outbreak and one of them is to stop international flights from high risk areas MUCH earlier.

Fictional books have nothing to do with it. You might as well say is was foretold in Lord of the Rings.

@johnmullins8500 ..Do you think everything in the Koran is also "100% correct". If no, why not?

@johnmullins8500 ....You really need to do some research on the particular God-story you follow. You worship the same fictional God as Jews and Muslims. And the fact you don't believe the words in the Koran shows why you should understand exactly why rational people (non believers in a God) don't believe the ludicrous claims in the Bible. Nor the Book of Mormon. Or the Book of Scientology. Or the many Hindu Gods (many who predate the Jesus story, by the way). Moreover, you REALLY need to do some research on the hundreds (if not thousands) of other God-stories that preceded the Jewish/Christian/Muslim cults. For example, Google "Jesus in comparative methodology"...and learn how his story is just a compilation of previous myths, particularly stories in ancient Eqypt (i.e the God Isis and his son Horus) and Persia. I remain perplexed there's still people who believe the ridiculous God stories from a time we thought the sun revolved around the earth. God is a superstition. It's EXACTLY like believing there's a Pink Unicorn in the sky who's in charge of your life. Or believing in the Tooth Fairy as an adult. You have my sincere sympathies for believing fictional stories are true. I wish you all the best.
